“This is how the whole thing started.”
Eve of Equality is a feminist blog that gains an incredible following after it is recommended by a popular TV host. It tackles important issues related to feminism in a way that is smart, funny, and thought-provoking. The big question is who is the blogger behind Eve of Equality? Who is Eve? The answer to that may come as a surprise to many. Eve is Everett Kane, a freelance writer and feminist. The meteoric rise of his blog’s popularity comes as a shock to him and takes his life in an exciting direction.
The premise of this book is really interesting, and with Terry Fallis’ reputation for funny, tongue-in-cheek stories I was expecting an enjoyable read. Poles Apart did not disappoint. It is fun and light-hearted, with an array of amusing characters. Exploring feminism from Everett’s point of view was thought-provoking, although I did not agree with him on quite a few points. I feel there were opportunities for him to learn and come to a few realizations, unfortunately however, this did not occur. The story also goes into detail about Everett’s blog and how he approached its set-up and general operations that may especially appeal to bloggers. Poles Apart is a fun, fast-paced read with an interesting take on feminism and the blogging world.
