“There’s a reason things always seem better in the morning.”
Veronica is not very happy in her career as a lawyer, with a high stress office environment and interests that lie elsewhere. But her relationship with John feels strong and her plans and hopes for the future are ones with him as her husband and her days as a lawyer long behind her. John, however, has other plans and soon Veronica is on her own and re-making her life by exploring a long time interest of news reporting and diving into the ever unpredictable world of dating. With guidance from the spirits of her deceased grandparents, she is learning, growing, and slowly figuring out what is important to her and what she will not settle for.
Better in the Morning is a fun read that focuses on following your passion, being brave in life, and figuring it all out. On top of that are Veronica’s dating adventures, which is something I’m sure many people can relate to and get a laugh out of. While her decisions are questionable at times there is something quite endearing about the story, with moments that made me smile and chuckle on a number of occasions. The grandparent moments are sweet and the concept of Veronica having this kind of support and guidance in life is very well done, adding a special element to the story. A great summer, beach read.
