Three books down and one to go! While I loved the first two novels in The Cemetery of Forgotten Books quartet, this one lacked that same magic. I was not particularly drawn to the story and trying to make sense of the timeline as it relates to the previous novel, The Angel’s Game became somewhat confusing. It feels like the start of a story rather than a complete one. Perhaps after reading the final novel it will click into place but on its own it left me disappointed (especially after reading The Angel’s Game, which I appreciated immensely).
I read The Shadow of the Wind years ago and absolutely loved it; the story, the characters, the writing, and the wonderful and impressive translation. Because I loved it so much I was hesitant to read any of the other books in The Cemetery of Forgotten Books world. It was just perfect to me all on its own. But this week I went ahead and read The Angel’s Game, which reminded me of the beauty of Carlos Ruiz Zafon’s writing. I was swept up in the eerie and sinister atmosphere of the novel and was eager to pick up the story every night. Right now I want to continue exploring the other stories in this world and will start on The Prisoner of Heaven right away.
Reading with Gus.🥰
My little reading project is moving along.☺️ Going through the list of Poirot mysteries has been quite fun; a good mix of books I enjoyed with some “meh” ones sprinkled throughout. Only two I found to be a complete miss, those being “The Big Four” and “Third Act Tragedy.”
Definitely need more cozy reading time in 2021.💕 I’m currently in the best reading mood where I can’t wait to grab another book as soon as I’m finished with the one I am reading. So I’m riding that wave while it lasts.☺️
This week I want to highlight my favourite books of the year. While it feels like reading was so all over the place for me this year, there were some wonderful standouts. Starting with Race the Sands by Sarah Beth Durst.
